GPA-NW has established formal procedures to ensure that retired racers are placed in loving homes with people who will take good care of them.
After reviewing all the information on our website you can fill out our on-line application or download the application form and mail it to GPA Northwest.
If you have any other questions you may call GPA-NW at 1-800-366-1472 or e-mail Adoption1@gpa-nw.org.
Once your application has been received, one of our specially trained Volunteer Placement Representatives will contact you and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have about owning a Greyhound. At the same time, our GPA-NW Volunteer Placement Representative gets to know you and what kind of dog you are looking for.
Our adoption process is one of matching the right Greyhound for you and your lifestyle. This can take some time but we believe it results in the best possible adoption and finding the perfect dog for you.
We prefer to place Greyhounds in homes with a fenced front or back yard, since it is more convenient for you and safer for the dogs as they cannot be trusted off-leash in an unfenced area. Greyhounds are so fast that they can be off and running in a second and you are not going to be able to catch them. In some instances we place Greyhounds in condominiums and apartments but only if the adoptive owner can demonstrate their commitment to the extra responsibilities they will have. These extra responsibilities include keeping the dog on a lead at all times when outside; taking the dog out several times a day, and walking the dog every day. Even though they are so called "couch potatoes," they do require some exercise.
