Mustang came into foster care on December 15, 2003, after having had a mild seizure at the adoption kennel. He was examined by a veterinarian the following day and blood work was done. He was not put on any anti-convulscent medication pending further observation.
Mustang is a sweet, very loving 3-year old. He is a large, muscular dog with a beautiful black coat and white blaze at his chest. He is one of the most affectionate dogs you would ever want to meet. Many times a day he will come up and put his head on your arm, press into your chest as if trying to give you a hug. He would love nothing more than if he could be a lap dog.
Mustang, although he is the largest dog in his foster family, is the meekest as well. He tends to stay toward the back of the group and his response to being picked on by the younger rowdier dogs is to run like the wind. He loves to run and being chased just makes him go faster. He may be submissive, but he is not insecure – he knows what he’s good at.
Mustang is a great relaxer – he loves to sprawl out on a dog bed, with all fours up in the air. When he thinks no one is looking, he will start gathering toys around him. Then he secretly throws them in the air and romps a bit.
After having observed Mustang for two months, checking his blood work again and with no further seizures, we had Mustang neutered and his teeth cleaned. He came through the whole procedure with flying colors. Mustang continues to be monitored for any seizure activity to make sure he receives adequate care. Dogs who have seizures can go long periods of time between seizures or the seizure activity can increase requiring medication or changes in medication. In late April 2004 Mustang had another seizure episode. The seizure was mild and mainly caused him to become disoriented for a while. We continue to track his seizure cycle but the neurologist does not recommend any medication for Mustang yet.
Mustang does tend to see opening doors as something to bolt through and has done so on a couple of occasions. Being strong and muscular, he can knock past a person very easily.
Mustang Has found his home for life and now lives with two other greyhounds. He is content to be part of a small pack and gets lots of attention from his new family. He has not had any more seizures and seems to be stable and healthy. Mustang has finally found a lap big enough for him to settle into and loves to be near his people.See larger picture >>>
