Lilly is a 9-year-old red brindle who was returned to GPA due to stressful living conditions. Another dog in the family never accepted Lilly and has attacked her on at least two occasions. Lilly has recovered from those wounds but continues to be treated for inflamitory bowel disease.

According to Lilly's medical records, an attack by another dog resulted in a broken leg for Lilly. Lilly was attacked again in June of this year just before she was returned. Lilly had also suffered from chronic diarrhea for over 6 months. After resting and recovering from her wounds in a foster home for a month, Lilly still had not gained any weight and remained dangerously underweight.

Lilly was seen in early August by an internist who reviewed her medical records and previous tests. At that time he recommended an endoscopic exam to determine the exact nature of her illness. The endoscopic exam was done and several biopsies taken, which revealed severe inflammation of the small intestine and some inflammation of the colon.

Lilly has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which is a treatable condition. Lilly had gone from 61 pounds in November to 44 pounds on August 1st. She is now on medications for her IBD and a diet, which she tolerates quite well. She is also being treated for anemia. As of September 1st Lilly is back up to 52.5 pounds and doing well.

Lilly is a wonderful, loving dog. She approaches anyone and is great with kids of all ages, giving them big kisses. She is great on the leash, is not possessive of space or food and is OK with cats. Lilly is recovering in a wonderful foster home where she can relax and gain strength.

Lilly suffered a setback when she broke one of her toes in late October. The toe had to be amputated and spent a few weeks recovering. She is now fully recovered from that injury and at her last checkup with the internal specialist, she weighed 55 pounds an has been taken off all of her medications. Lilly continues on a special diet and will need lifetime monitoring for flare-ups of her IBD or Anemia.

Lilly got her christmas wish and has been adopted into her home for life. She is living happily with several other greyhounds and has her own special place on the couch. Her IBD is well under control and she is off all of her medications.
