Harley
last updated: November 23, 2004

Harley is a 9-1/2 year old brindle male. He loves adults and children older than eight but toddlers make him anxious. He is fine with cats and when introduced to small dogs he did well after being taught not to bark at them. Harley loves to be outside, go for walks, chase squirrels, and especially to ride in the car. He is extremely social and loves to be the center of attention.

When Harley was returned he had severe skin problems with open sores. He has since seen the dermatologist and is on antibiotics for the bacterial infection in his sores, as well as special food and a spray for his skin.

Harley is very sweet and affectionate with everyone he meets. He is also very playful and loves squeaky toys. He is recovering from the extraction of 27 teeth(!), and his gums are healing slowly. Of his 15 remaining teeth, only two are on the top, right in front of where the canines were. He is adjusting, but will be on a soft food diet for awhile. He is on an herbal antihistamine for his flea allergy, which has relieved his itching. He has a beautiful fur coat, and he likes to be brushed. Harley did not know any words when we got him, but he is learning quickly. He also appeared to have some atrophy in his back leg muscles, but he is picking up more speed all the time - he'll be catching those squirrels soon! He has trouble negotiating more than a few stairs, and he panics going down them. The vet said she wouldn't be surprised to see him live to the ripe old age or 13 or 14, however, because he is otherwise in very good shape.

Harley turned out to fit in so well with his foster family that they have adopted him. Harley is living comfortably with the people who have cared for him through his most difficult time.
