Leader is a big sweetheart who loves life. He is 7 years old and in 2006 he developed a seizure disorder, which is being monitored by his foster home. Since that time Leader has been diagnosed with Epilepsy, a controllable disorder that is being treated with medication successfully. Leader has also reduced his weight through use of hypoallergenic food from 98 lbs. to 82 lbs and is ready to find the right home with people who can care for him and love him.
The seizures became so close together and caused such considerable difficulty in breathing for Leader that it became necessary to start him on anti-seizure medication. A veterinary neurologist has evaluated Leader and after extensive testing, the cause of Leader's seizures is diagnosed as idiopathic epilepsy. This means that there is no underlying disease and the seizures are of unknown cause. Due to his age and the late onset of seizures, there was a concern that an inflammatory disease or brain lesion could be the cause. In order to determine the course of treatment that would most benefit Leader, an MRI and spinal tap were necessary. These are expensive procedures, but procedures we have determined were necessary to properly care for Leader and prepare him for a new home.

Leader loves to be near people and greets everyone as if they were a long lost friend. Everyone who meets him is impressed by his enthusiasm. Leader is very gentle despite his size. His muzzle is already a bit grey, which contrasts his unusual dark brindle color. He gets along well with other greyhounds, other breeds of dogs and ignores the cats. Running around in his yard, playing with his favorite rabbit toy, picking low-lying apples from the apple tree for a snack and splashing in a wading pool are among Leader's favorite things to do. Were it possible, he would be a lap dog - instead he settles for cuddles.

Leader has had some problems with his seizure control for the last few months and as a result, his medications have been adjusted. The neurologist has also added another medication called Potasium Bromide to his regimine to better control his seizures. It will take about 4 to 6 weeks to adjust to the new medications but Leader is still as happy as ever. If you think you are ready to love a big, happy Greyhound who needs some extra care, please ask about Leader.
