These are special events when the greyhounds from the adoption kennel have an opportunity to go out and about to meet prospective new adopters and to show off what great pets they make. These events are a little different because we are handling dogs right out of the adoption kennel. This is a great way to help our dogs find homes. We have found that our best adoption results come from events where adoptable greyhounds are shown. If you want to help with these events, you will work with an experienced handler to learn all about taking greyhounds straight from the kennel into the public. Some events are all day outings and some are even over night. To help with Hounds Out and About contact us at HoundsOut@gpa-nw.org.
The Show and Tell events allow the greyhounds to help each other by simply being themselves in public and showing people who they are; they do the Showing, we do the Telling! These two to four hour events are generally held on weekends. The set up consists of pens for the greyhounds, a small table with brochures and information about greyhounds as pets, and a sign or two. If you can help with the organization or set up of a Show and Tell, please let us know. If not, you can still help by bringing your greyhound(s) to Show and Tells in your area, if even for a short time. The dogs are able to be "sales dogs" and they also get the chance to socialize with each other. Contact us at volunteer@gpa-nw.org.
This fun day in the park requires many volunteers. We need people to help set up/take down and clean up, people to man the many booths including the food preparation and service, people to help with the cooking and much more. If you would like to spend a couple of hours helping to make the next picnic be a success, please contact our Picnic coordinators at picnic@gpa-nw.org.
Even though they are known for getting around pretty quickly, the greyhounds rely on us for their transportation. Before our greyhounds can be adopted, they are scheduled for spaying or neutering and teeth cleaning. If you can provide transportation, please let us know. Each ride is an opportunity to give a little more reassurance to a greyhound friend who is entering a new world. Contact us at transport@gpa-nw.org.
Events or errands often need to be accomplished during weekdays when many of our volunteers are at work. Let us know if your schedule would allow you to help with weekday events or errands. Many fun greyhound surprises have popped up during the week! Contact us at volunteer@gpa-nw.org.
We are always looking for authors with stories and photographs about greyhounds. Every quarter GPA-NW publishes a newsletter of the latest happenings with our greyhound friends. We are always looking for contributing authors with stories and information to contribute. Of course a scoop on the latest news is available to those who can help prepare the newsletter for printing and mailing. Contact us at Editor@gpa-nw.org.
We continually make telephone calls to remind people of upcoming Show and Tells, follow-up calls to foster parents or new adopters, or handling requests for information from volunteers. This does not involve soliciting for donations. If you enjoy talking on the phone and talking about greyhounds, this job is for you. Contact us at volunteer@gpa-nw.org.
