Waggin Tails Harvest Fair
Portland Oregon, October 7th 2009
Noon - 4:00pm
Greyhound Pets Of America Northwest
Contact: Carol Vinnacombe
President, GPA Northwest
GPA Northwest brought 44 Greyhounds from the racetrack in Tucson,
Arizona in September. Some of these dogs were in a racing kennel
that went out of business and needed special care. The Phoenix,
Arizona racetrack and the Wonderland racetrack in Massachusetts are
both closing permanently, which will leave hundreds of Greyhounds
without a place to live. GPA Northwest needs public support to
enable it to give these Greyhounds a place to live and hope for a
future as a pet. The non-profit organization will be holding a
special Harvest Themed fundraising event, open to the public and all
breeds of dogs, on October 24th.
Tails R Waggin’ Doggy Day Care, 4925 NW Fruit Valley Rd. Vancouver
WA will provide the venue for the Waggin’ Tails Harvest Fair
on October 24th. The Fair will provide a way for people to enjoy a
day with their dog, family, and friends and help Greyhound Pets of
America Northwest raise money for their Greyhound adoption program.
Dogs can expect to participate in everything from a costume contest
to their favorite game, bobbing for hotdogs, a trick contest and
other games. Kids will enjoy their own activities including face
painting and games. The event also includes a Pie Contest and Baked
Beauties Contest for the adults. Fall themed food and
beverages will be available for everyone to enjoy. Admission is $7
per adult and $3 per child - all well-behaved canines $1.
“The Waggin’ Tails Harvest Fair pulls from some of the fun aspects
of several fall activities. There will be fall produce,
crafts, pie and baked good contests in keeping with harvest theme,
there will be games such as toss the ring on the wagging tail in
keeping with old-fashioned county fairs, there will be costume
contests and canine Trick ‘n Treat contests in anticipation of
Halloween” said Janice Jones, Vancouver resident and Vice President
of Greyhound Pets of America Northwest, “We invite the whole family
to join in the fun and help a good cause.”

About Greyhound Pets of America - Northwest
GPA Northwest is a non-profit corporation and tax-exempt
organization. It is a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, a
national network of Greyhound adoption groups. The mission of GPA
Northwest is to find responsible loving homes for Greyhounds, which
fail to qualify or no longer qualify for the racetrack. GPA
acquaints the public with the desirability of Greyhounds as pets and
informs them of the availability of these dogs for adoption.
Whenever the opportunity arises, GPA Northwest works to place dogs
that began their lives in Oregon. GPA Northwest is staffed entirely
by unpaid volunteers; all donations and other revenues are dedicated
entirely to supporting its Greyhound adoption program.
