Greyhound Retirement Day
July 30, 2006 - Portland Oregon
Greyhound Pets of America Northwest
Greyhound Pets of America Northwest announced today that their
next "Greyhound Retirement Day" will be Saturday August 5th.
The Retirement Day is when a group of Greyhounds arrive in the
Northwest to become a part of the GPA Northwest adoption program.
The group of dogs scheduled to arrive on August 5th will be
comprised of both male and female Greyhounds, ready to be adopted.
These Greyhounds come from all over the country and whether they
started their lives in Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona or Oregon they are
all welcomed into the GPA Northwest adoption program.
The group said that with the success of their adoption program in
2006, several of the incoming dogs already have homes waiting. Those
that do not go directly to their permanent homes, called their
"Home-For-Life", will be placed into doggie foster homes. These
foster homes are typically volunteers that already have another
Greyhound or other pets and open their homes to a temporary visitor.
The average stay for a GPA Northwest Greyhound in foster care is
about 3 weeks.
"We are always looking for volunteers to help with our adoption
program, said Carol Vinnacombe the foster coordinator for GPA
Northwest, anyone can help whether you want to become a foster home
or just spend time with the dogs at the various GPA Northwest
events."
GPA Northwest welcomes volunteers who are interested in helping out
with the Greyhounds. If you are interested in participating in any
GPA Northwest activity, please contact us by calling 503-784-1285
