Greyhound Pet Adoption Northwest welcomes volunteers from all walks of life, regardless of whether they have adopted a Greyhound. All that is required is a love of animals, and a willingness to work. For more information Email our Volunteer Coordinator or call 503-784-1285.
Greyhound Washing - When our new dogs arrive and
before they go to their foster homes, they need a bath, nail trim
and ear cleaning. We need volunteers who can help with this first
step in moving Greyhounds from the racetrack to the couch. no
experience is necessary, just a willingness to get wet and help the
Greyhounds get settled in their new environment.
Event Staffing - Learn to setup Greyhound outreach
events and be there to answer visitors questions. This is a great
place to learn about Greyhound Pet Adoption Northwest and Greyhounds. No experience is
necessary, we will teach you what you need to know and you can
benefit the Greyhounds from your first day. There are events just
about every weekend so we have plenty of openings for event
staffing.
Transportation - The Greyhounds often need to be
transported from one place to another. This may be from their foster
home to an event or to the veterinarian for an appointment. All that
is needed is some training in handling a Greyhound safely and good
driving! We can use help in many areas of Portland, Salem and
Eugene.
Major Events - Greyhound Pet Adoption Northwest puts on several major
events each year. These special evens require a lot of manpower to
move the materials from storage to the event site, setup of the
events and staffing. There is no experience necessary for most
aspects of this work but you will be trained as needed.
Graphic Design Services - To help prepare our
printed literature.
Placement Volunteers - This is one of our most
important jobs, placing Greyhounds into their permanent homes.
Placement volunteers need to be committed and able to spend several
hours each week on this work. You will be trained in several stages
to become comfortable with matching people with Greyhounds. A
support staff works with the placement volunteers to accomplish all
aspects of the placement but the placement volunteer carries the
responsibility and gets the reward for placing a Greyhound in the
perfect home.
